The Bootstrap Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. We’re working to revolutionize the development industry by focusing on giving a hand-up not a hand-out.
Since 2011 we have been working with artisans in the developing world to create sustainable livelihoods through the revival of traditional craft. We create an outlet for the local artisans to share their stories and distribute their crafts. The profits of our sales go back to the artists and their communities to empower them by providing the opportunity to preserve and advance their crafts, customs, and way of life. As such, our organization activates resources to empower self-sufficiency through the arts in communities around the world.
We believe that many foreign aid policies leave developing regions of the world mired in traps of dependency and corruption. Instead, we support initiatives that set the correct framework for local investment and trade where incentives are correctly aligned for self-sustaining growth.
We believe the key to achieving sustainable development are local entrepreneurs who understand the needs and capabilities of each community. We currently partner with local entrepreneurs in five countries and have trained over 100 artisans.
With these new positions our artisans are now able to put food on the table, receive medical care and pay for their children's education.
But this can’t be done without you. Your pledge today will kickstart the career of an artisan in the developing world for a lifetime.
Know your source, join the movement. Together we’re changing the world.
